They investigate a brutal racist attack against a young man in Tavernes de la Valldigna

Mohamed M, a Martoquí resident in Tavernes de la Vadigna, is the victim of a brutal beating at the hands of a group of young people last weekend during the costume night of the Valencian population's patron saint festivities. The images of the lynching spread like wildfire and have generated great controversy and indignation. As a result of these blows, the young man was hospitalized with a triple fracture in his jaw that required surgery and the placement of a prosthesis, which he will probably have to wear for life. Its evolution is favorable.

Mohamed, 32 years old, can barely speak and does not speak Spanish perfectly either. From his hospital bed, a friend transmits to EL PAÍS the complaint of the victim who claims to have suffered a “racist attack.” The assault is being investigated by the Civil Guard and the images recorded by a person present at the fight will be essential to identify the aggressors. In the video you can see how the young people who are chasing Mohamed repeatedly kick him in the head when he is already on the ground. Some girls stopped the attack when the victim fell to the ground. They also hit him on the head with bottles.

The victim, who works as a bricklayer and shares a home in Tavernes, was chased by a group of young people who beat and kicked him for at least five minutes, as shown in the video recorded while the events were taking place. During the chase, shouts from the aggressors such as “Morocco, Morocco” or “hit him”, fill (son of a bitch) are also heard. These shouts could ultimately constitute a hate crime.

Among the versions that have circulated on social networks in the town, one suggests that Mohamed was persecuted for having groped a girl. The victim claims that he did not touch any girl's ass, according to what he says through his friend. At this point, he insists that he did nothing and that they started beating him in the street unexpectedly.
