The Mid-Autumn Festival holiday for teachers is approaching. The Central Meteorological Administration predicts that the weather in various places will be generally stable, cloudy to sunny before the weekend, with local rainfall in some areas in the afternoon. There is a high chance of moon viewing in various places on the Mid-Autumn Festival night. In addition, the current tropical depression TD29 is still some distance away from Taiwan. It is estimated that there is a chance that it will strengthen into a light typhoon tomorrow and then develop into a medium typhoon around Saturday. It will first move in the northwest-west direction in the early stage, and then turn northward after next Sunday. This will affect the weather on Monday and Tuesday next week. It will turn rainy north of Taoyuan and Yilan, but the typhoon path is still uncertain and needs to be observed.

Li Mengxuan, a forecaster from the Meteorological Administration, said that before the weekend, the weather is generally stable, cloudy to sunny. Today, there are relatively few clouds over Taiwan, and sunshine is visible everywhere. There are local showers in the mountainous areas south of Chiayi in the afternoon, and sporadic rains in other mountainous areas in the afternoon. The high temperature around noon can reach more than 30 degrees, and the local high temperature reaches 33 or 34 degrees in some inland areas. However, due to less cloud cover, there is a radiation cooling effect in the early morning. Li Mengxuan pointed out that tropical depression TD29 is currently about 2,000 kilometers away from Taiwan on the sea surface, and the circulation is still being organized. It is expected to have the opportunity to strengthen into a light typhoon tomorrow, and then develop into a moderate typhoon level around Saturday. It is expected to move in the northwest-west direction in the future. After reaching the sea south of Ryukyu, Japan next Sunday, it may have a northward trend. The probability of a northward trend is higher, but some models may predict that it will be more westward and closer to Taiwan, so the later path is still uncertain.

Li Mengxuan said that tomorrow, water vapor will move in from the east of Taiwan, and there will be scattered rainfall on the north coast of Keelung, the eastern half, and the Shuangbei mountainous area, and afternoon showers in other areas. On the Mid-Autumn Festival on Friday, it will be cloudy to sunny everywhere, and the mountainous area south of Chiayi will rain relatively much in the afternoon. There is a high chance of moon viewing in various places, but because there may be afternoon convection in the mountainous area, the clouds will be heavy around the evening and are expected to dissipate at night. On weekends, it will be generally cloudy to sunny everywhere, with only scattered rainfall in the mountainous area in the afternoon.

Li Mengxuan pointed out that the typhoon is expected to come to the sea east of Taiwan on Monday and Tuesday next week, and the wind direction will turn northerly. On the windward side, watch out for local showers north of Taoyuan and Yilan. There will be scattered rain in eastern Huadong, and there will also be local showers in the mountainous areas in the afternoon. However, the amount of rainfall still depends on the distance of the typhoon, and there is still uncertainty.

Li Mengxuan reminded that starting from Saturday, watch out for long waves from the north coast of Keelung to the eastern half (including Green Island and Orchid Island). In addition, from Saturday to next Wednesday, north of Changhua and Penghu will have annual spring tides. During the high tide, the water level is high, so be careful about flooding.
