Trenitalia, from November 2 euros for seat reservations for AV season ticket holders

The current model provides free train travel reservations for holders of high-speed season tickets, but from November passengers who want to reserve a seat will be asked to pay a fixed cost of 2 euros per reservation - explains Assoutenti - On the other hand, the cost of high-speed season tickets will drop by 80 euros, in order to offset the expense of commuters.

"The new mechanism - continues the consumer association - has been designed to improve the filling rate of trains and to overcome a chronic criticality of rail transport: today, in fact, many season ticket holders book a seat on trains for free but then do not actually use the reservation, reducing the real availability of seats to the detriment of all other passengers", highlights Assoutenti.

The purchasing methods will be integrated with informative content and in-depth links to accompany the customer in their purchasing choices. In particular, there will be an information box highlighting the booking price, to support a more informed choice, and a summary with information on the overall price and the individual components (subscription fee and bookings).

"A change that could lead to benefits not only for season ticket holders, but for the entire audience of travellers", is the hope of Assoutenti.

An increase in real availability, in fact, impacts the dynamic prices of railway tickets, which as is known are lower when there is a greater supply of seats on a train. "As always, we will monitor the application of Trenitalia's new mechanism in the field to understand the real benefits in favor of commuters and the generality of passengers, and we are ready to ask for changes from the company should critical issues emerge", concludes the president of Assoutenti Gabriele Melluso.
