Gyeongbuk fall agricultural machinery fires accounted for 31.8%, property damage accounted for 54.2%

The Gyeongbuk Provincial Fire Department announced on the 6th that of the 368 agricultural machinery fires in the province over the past 10 years (2016 to 2025), 117 (31.8%) occurred between September and November.

Property damage from agricultural machinery fires in the fall was 1,376.41 million won, accounting for 54.2% of the total agricultural machinery fire damage of 2,544,750,000 won.

The most common cause of fire ignition in agricultural machinery during the entire period was mechanical factors (184 cases (50%)), followed by electrical factors (109 cases (29.6%)) and carelessness in 41 cases (11.1%).

In particular, in the fall season, mechanical factors were the cause of ignition in 73 cases, accounting for 62.4% of all fall fires.

The Gyeongbuk Provincial Fire Department explained that as the use of agricultural machinery increases during the harvest season, the condition of the engine room and wiring must be inspected before and after work and continuous operation for long periods of time must be avoided.

Seong Ho-seon, head of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Fire Department, said, "The risk of fire increases as agricultural machinery such as combines and tractors are used intensively during the harvest season. Please prevent fires through thorough inspections before and after work."
