Chungbuk Province begins construction and operation of natural disaster situation management system

North Chungcheong Province announced on the 27th that it will establish and begin operating a 'natural disaster situation management system' that manages disaster situation information in one place.

According to the province, the existing natural disaster situation management system was carried out by disseminating reports through the National Disaster Management Information System (NDMS), Disaster and Safety Communication Network (PS-LTE), and group communication rooms, and then confirming and processing reporting data from collaborating departments and cities and counties, which required a lot of time and manpower.

On the other hand, North Chungcheong Province explains that the newly established natural disaster situation management system can more systematically manage follow-up measures after the report is disseminated, such as linking the contents of NDMS reports with its own system and designating a responsible department for each report to manage the results.

It was further explained that major status such as reporting, control, and evacuation and matters discussed at the situation assessment meeting were also managed to improve information sharing and collaboration functions in the disaster response process, while the efficiency of situation management work was improved by using artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically input the reporting, control, and evacuation status entered into the system into the report.

North Chungcheong Province plans to focus the time and manpower improved through the new system on monitoring actual danger signs and quickly disseminating the situation.

Heo Hyeok, head of the Natural Disaster Department, said, "The key to introducing this system is to reduce the time spent organizing data, so that we can look at risk signs more carefully and respond quickly." He added, "We will supplement functions by reflecting field opinions from the future operation process and develop the system through AX conversion to expand the use of artificial intelligence."
