President Lee Jae-myung calls for stronger disciplinary action, saying it makes no sense to impose light punishment on police case manipulation.

President Lee Jae-myung said on the 29th that disciplinary action against police officers for misconduct related to their duties should be at the level of "basically prohibiting them from doing police work or dismissing them."

President Lee pointed out this at a cabinet meeting presided over at the Blue House on this day, saying, "There was a report not long ago that 'the police manipulated the case, and the level of disciplinary action was a light one.'"

President Lee emphasized, "From the public's point of view, there are cases where people have been unfairly harmed, but cannot receive relief due to fabrication of the case, and even change the perpetrator and the victim, creating something that will cause lifelong resentment."

In addition, he said, “It is important to strengthen the inspection function and independence,” and added, “You should not protect everyone because they are members of your own family.”

In particular, he asked, “Because we now have the right to terminate the investigation, it has become difficult to keep external checks in the investigation process,” and added, “So, responsibility has become much greater. We need to ensure that the investigation is fair and objective, and that we must thoroughly establish a system to correct when mistakes are made.”
