Ship carrying 243 people disappeared in Indonesia

Authorities announced that contact was lost with the ship, which was sailing from the city of Surabaya in the province of East Java to the city of Banjarmasin in the province of South Kalimantan, at around 02:00 local time.

Officials stated that the ship operator reported the situation after receiving information that the ship encountered bad weather conditions, and announced that the ship carrying 243 people was lost off the coast of Java region.

Authorities stated that search and rescue teams were dispatched to the last estimated location of the ship, and that all means were mobilized to find the missing, and that search and rescue activities were carried out in cooperation with all relevant authorities.

Sharing the information that many people were rescued and the dead bodies of 6 people were found during the search efforts, the authorities stated that efforts are continuing for approximately 130 people who are still unaccounted for.
