Statement stating that Israel systematically targets Palestinian journalists

In the written statement made by the Prisoners Association, it was stated that Israel targeted Palestinian journalists by "arresting them, giving unfair punishments, placing them in solitary confinement and ill-treating them".

It was stated that the number of Palestinian journalists imprisoned by Israel since the attacks on Gaza began in 2023 has reached 37.

Israel was last informed that journalists named Muaz Amarine and Sabri Cibrin were detained during a raid on their homes in the city of Bethlehem in the south of the West Bank.

It was noted that Amarine was constantly targeted by Israel because of his profession and was detained for the third time.

Regarding unfair punishments against journalists, the statement included the example of Mahmud Fetafta and emphasized that journalist and writer Fetafta was sentenced to 48 months in prison and that this was the highest sentence given in cases related to "incitement".

Regarding the administrative detention orders given without trial, it was stated that 19 journalists from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, were sentenced to administrative detention, and this figure corresponds to 51 percent of the journalists currently in prison.

In the statement, it was noted that there was an increase in Israel's policies of "solitary confinement, starvation, medical neglect, torture and ill-treatment" towards female prisoners in prisons, and it was reminded that journalist Bushra al-Tavil was transferred from Damon Prison to Ramle Prison and placed in solitary confinement there.

The statement emphasized that Palestinian journalists are constantly targeted through "detention, imprisonment, solitary confinement, torture, killing, enforced disappearance and direct attack while performing their duties" and that this is part of a systematic policy aimed at preventing journalists from conveying the truth.

The statement noted that targeting Palestinian journalists was aimed at covering up the truth and suppressing the Palestinian narrative, and stated that Israeli authorities were responsible for the fate of all female captives, especially journalist Tavil.

The statement called on the international community to protect Palestinian journalists, ensure their right to continue their work, and end Israel's policies targeting them.
