Threatening email to Muslim schools in Canada: Police launched an investigation

An e-mail containing a threatening message that Muslims would be "massacred" was sent to 9 schools belonging to the Muslim Association of Canada (MAC).

In the e-mail signed "Citizen Vigilante", a threat was made that Muslims would be "massacred" and the statement that Canada would be "purified from Islam" was included.

MAC Spokesperson Nabil Sultan stated that the same anonymous e-mail was sent to schools in Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec within 24 hours, and noted that they hired private security guards to ensure the safety of students after the threats.

Regional police in the states stated that hate crimes units launched an investigation into the incident.

Ontario police said they were aware of the letter containing "hate-motivated threats" against Islamic institutions and increased patrols around mosques and schools.

Ottawa police noted that the number of police officers had been increased at the points where threatening messages were received, but there was no evidence of a "specific or imminent threat" yet.
