Towards “a dark day” this Tuesday, September 29? In any case, this is what CGT number one Sophie Binet announces, while a mobilization of public sector agents is planned today, at the call of the eight representative trade union organizations (CGT, FO, CFDT, UNSA, FSU, Solidaires, CFE-CGC and FA-FP). “We need to increase civil servants,” insisted the general secretary of the CFDT Marylise Léon this Monday morning on France 2. In the communities, the CGT of public services has filed a strike notice covering all territorial agents.
On the eve of the presentation of the 2027 budget, civil servants are demanding better remuneration conditions, rejecting the budget cuts envisaged by the government, in particular the freezing of the index point. Teachers mobilized, 40% of strikers in primary education according to FSU-SNUipp
In National Education, teachers are called to strike by the unions. In the first level, the FSU-SNUipp, the leading union of primary school teachers, expects 40% of strikers. “In principle, in the first level, there is a minimum reception service which is provided by local authorities,” recalled the Minister of National Education Édouard Geffray on RMC, saying he did not know “the rate of strikers”.
The FSU-SNUipp calls for a return to the automatic indexation of the value of the index point to inflation, affirming that the remuneration of school teachers has “dropped by 24% compared to inflation since 2010”. The poor student supervision rate in France is also singled out, as well as insufficient educational inclusion for disabled children and “obsolete” school buildings.
The main union of secondary school teachers, the Snes-FSU is also calling for a strike, denouncing in particular the 54 billion euros in savings planned by the government in the 2027 budget. Student organizations have also planned to mobilize on Tuesday in universities. The USL, the main high school organization, also called for blocking the establishments on the same day.
Few disruptions in transport
Unions from the SNCF and RATP have called on their agents to join the call for strike this Tuesday, September 29. But few disruptions are expected. Indeed, on the SNCF side, “SNCF Voyageurs train traffic will be normal on Tuesday September 29 on the TGV and Intercités connections” and “almost normal on the TER”, according to SNCF Voyageurs. Within the railway company, only Sud-Rail called the railway workers to strike, from Monday September 28 at 6 p.m. to November 28 at 11 p.m. The union denounces the deterioration of working conditions for agents during the summer heatwaves.
In Île-de-France, traffic should be “normal” on the Ile-de-France metro and RER networks, said an RATP spokesperson. “The circulation of trains and RERs operated by Transilien SNCF Voyageurs on behalf of Île-de-France Mobilités will be normal on RER A and B as well as on lines H, J, K, L, N, P and U,” said the SNCF. Some disruptions are, however, expected on RER C and E (3 trains out of 4), on RER D (between 1 train out of 2 and 1 train out of 3 depending on the branches), as well as on lines R (1 train out of 3, only during peak hours) and V (2 trains out of 3) of the Transilien. As a reminder, the CGT-RATP has filed an indefinite strike notice starting this Monday, September 28 evening.

Caregivers also called to stop work
In hospitals, the CGT Santé Social Action has filed a strike notice for this Tuesday, September 29 concerning, among others, the health, social and medico-social establishments of the public hospital service, the French Blood Establishment (EFS) and blood transfusion activities, as well as private health, social and medico-social establishments and services responsible for a public service mission.
The union is demanding in particular an improvement in working conditions and access to health for all. The CFDT Santé-Sociaux also joined the movement. In hospitals, the right to strike must always be reconciled with continuity of care, which allows an establishment director to designate by name agents who must remain in their position.
France Travail agents on strike
All France Travail unions have called for a strike this Tuesday, to protest against insufficient salaries, reorganizations and successive budget cuts by the operator. Such an alignment of ten trade union organizations is a first since 2018.
They also intend to warn about the impact of austerity on the public employment service, while unemployment is rising (8.3% of the active population in the second quarter of 2026). If the saving of 2.5 billion euros planned in the 2027 draft budget for the Ministry of Labor is properly implemented, Les Échos estimates that France Travail would lose around 100 million euros and 400 positions.

The firefighters also plan to mobilize this Tuesday, while their nine representative union organizations filed strike notices at the beginning of September which run until October 20. According to Sébastien Delavoux, professional firefighter and leader of the CGT collective of SDIS (departmental fire and rescue services), “8,000 firefighters have planned to go to Paris” to demonstrate this September 29, he declared to L’Insoumission, a press organ associated with La France insoumise (LFI). Dozens of firefighters have already demonstrated in Paris on Monday.

Firefighters are demanding the creation of 21,000 professional firefighter positions, better protection for their health as well as a refocusing of their missions, after the major fires of this summer which highlighted their difficult working conditions.
Dozens of demonstrations all over France
On its website, the CGT lists more than 150 demonstrations planned for this Tuesday in 90 departments. In Paris, the procession will set off at 2 p.m. from Place de la République. Parades are also planned in Marseille, Lyon, Lille, Strasbourg, Toulouse, Rennes and even Nantes.
