Operation combats internet control by criminal groups in Búzios and Cabo Frio

Operation Criminal Network carried out arrest and search warrants in the Rasa neighborhood, in Armação dos Búzios, and Maria Joaquina, in Cabo Frio, in the Lagos Region of Rio, to combat the control of internet services by criminal groups in both cities.

The action brought together the Civil and Military Police, the Public Ministry, the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel), Enel and city halls. According to authorities, the objective is to identify internet companies associated with organized crime, interrupt irregular operations and restore the services of affected operators.

At the scene, 22 Wi-Fi routers, three rolls of optical fiber, an optical fiber fusion machine, an optical line terminal (OLT), a signal extender, an internal optical distributor (DIO), two optical termination boxes (CTO) and an advertising banner were seized.

According to police records, the equipment belonged to different companies. An I-Systems technician was at the property and identified company items that, according to him, had not been legally supplied. The verification reinforced the suspicion of the material's illicit origin.

The Military Police command reported that it received complaints from residents about the imposition of internet service. According to the corporation, similar actions will be carried out in other locations where there are reports of the same practice.
